The history of SUPER8
The story begins in 2019, with the desire to create a mountain bike event that would enable initiated riders to discover the exceptional territory of La Plagne. From the very beginning, the aim was to offer an innovative and challenging concept. The idea caught on within the resort and work began with the first outlines of routes. Pro pilots were brought in to help the organisers create the event. And so Pool8 was born with Morgane Jonnier, Vincent Ancelin, Alex Balaud, Alexis Chenevier and Nadine Sapin, each an expert in thier own field.
Starting in summer 2020, the SUPER8 pool will visit La Plagne several times to test and ride the test race route. There will be feedback, advice and suggestions for areas of improvement, followed by yet more tests to bring you the final version of the Grand8 route. A varied, technical and demanding race, just like the panel of riders who have collaborated with the organisers during these long months of work.
The unique aspect of this event is also founded in the concept of rotating the start/finish lines and the bivouac aspect that emerged in later editions. These points on the race course alternate over a 4-year cycle between Aime Vallée, Montchavin les Coches, Champagny en Vanoise and La Plagne Montalbert. The aim is to make the Grand 8 event ever more attractive each year.
In 2022, Jérôme Gilloux, MTB-AE World Champion in 2021, joined the group. Winner of the Grand8 in 2021 and 2022, he is particularly fond of this race format, and provided advice on the construction of the second edition.
In 2023, he renewed his commitment to the organisation. The 3rd edition was expanded to include several leisure formats.
The SUPER8 is most definitely an event designed by racers, for racers!
